Meralco's July Advisory Lands This Week — Here's Where Rates Stand
Bottom line for your bill: If July follows June's pattern, expect the rate to hold or climb — every ₱0.10/kWh move is about ₱35/month to a one-aircon household.
Meralco publishes its monthly rate advisory around the 11th to the 13th, which puts the July announcement days away. Where things stand going in:
The June rate is ₱14.4833 per kWh for a typical household — up ₱0.1488 from May, and roughly 17% higher than a year ago. June’s increase came from generation charges (higher WESM spot prices after May’s yellow and red grid alerts) plus a weaker peso making imported fuel more expensive in peso terms.
What to watch in the July advisory: whether spot-market prices cooled after the alert season, and what the peso did to generation costs. Neither pressure has obviously reversed.
We’ll update the rate tracker and the utilities comparison the week the advisory lands — our calculators pick up the new rate the same day. Meanwhile, if June’s bill stung, find out exactly which appliances did the damage with the appliance electricity calculator.
